Academics

Fishburne Academics: Success through Structure

Fishburne Military School has a strong emphasis on academics. Our cadets thrive in the classroom with a small student-teacher ratio of 8:1. This personalized attention gives professors the opportunity to make sure that students grasp every concept. It also allows for in-depth lively discussions and advanced learning opportunities. Classrooms are equipped with both wired and wireless capabilities for interfacing with modern technology. Our rolling admissions policy gives new students an opportunity to transfer without having to wait for the next fall semester.

Course Selection

Cadets in grades 7 through 12 take all required college preparatory courses in mathematics, science, history, government, English and other languages. Advanced Placement (AP) courses in science and math are available for those seeking college credits in Mathematics and Science. Dual Enrollment courses in English, History and Information Systems Technology are offered through our affiliations with Shenandoah University and Blue Ridge Community College. Students at Fishburne Military School may also pursue computer programming certifications as part or our ongoing STEM initiative.

Our Course Catalog is available online or by contacting FMS admissions.

Accreditation

As a military boarding school for boys, the atmosphere at Fishburne allows students to focus on their studies without the distractions found in co-ed and public schools. Fishburne Military School is accredited by AdvancED(formerly The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) and is a charter member of the Virginia Association of Independent Schools. Time management for academics versus social and extracurricular activities are skills learned in preparation for college.

Advanced Courses

When our cadets make their way into the outside world, they keep the basic skills and principles they learned in military school with them. Many of our attendees and graduates find that the things they learned here – in and out of the classroom – have prepared them for college life and as leaders and professionals today.
