Young LAX Team Shows Early Promise

Fishburne Military School LAX Gains Experience

Waynesboro, VA — The Fishburne Military School Lacrosse team kicked off their season last week with a pair of games against tough rivals. It was a young Caissons Fishburne Military School (Waynesboro, VA) Lacrossesquad that took the field on Tuesday, as the Caissons faced Roanoke Catholic in a light drizzle with the temperature hovering just below forty.

The field was slick from a day of rain which resulted in both sides slipping and sliding the majority of the game. The Fishburne Military School Team Captain, Bobby Palermo (Huntingtown, MD) struck first for the Caissons with two goals, while Fishburne goalies Conner Greene (Virginia Beach, VA) and Stacy Wood (Waynesboro, VA) made nine and six saves respectively.

For over half of the team, this was their first lacrosse game, and the boys from Fishburne Military School showed much heart and determination all four quarters.

On Thursday, the Caissons faced Miller in strikingly opposite weather with the temperature climbing into the upper seventies. Goals were scored for the Caissons by James Gallagher (Copiague, NY) who netted his first goal of the season on a solo run from one end of the pitch to the other and Captain Bobby Palermo, who scored twice.

Although the Caissons were defeated in both games, the team gained valuable game-time experience and will look to put those lessons to work later this week when they travel to Massanutten Academy on Tuesday. Following that match-up, Fishburne Military School will host a double-header against local clubs at home on Saturday afternoon.

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
