Wrestlers Take to the Mats – First Two Matches

Entry 1:

The Young Caisson Wrestlers took to the mat for its first match of the season (Dec. 10) against the Miller School. Our Caissons Wrestling Team dressing only two seniors out of 19 wrestlers that dressed for the match and managed to walk away with a season opening win. The final score was Miller 14 – Caissons 66.

Wrestlers that had very storng showings were Kyle Harvey with a pin in 42 seconds, Chris Sliger with a pin in 1:45, Tyler Lawson with a pin in 1:35, Tristan Osborne with a pin in :59 seconds, and Ben Drumm with a win by medical default in the first period. Eighth grader Joseph Forehand, who took a forfiet in the 140-pound match, took on an exhibition match and wrestled one of the Miller School’s extra 152-pounders, and won by pin in the second period. It was a great night for a very young team with a lot of season to go. Next stops for the young Caisson wrestlers are Dec. 12th at the MMA Invitational, then a home match on Wed the 16th at 5pm. Come out to the gym and support the wrestlers before they head home for the holidays.

Entry 2:

The young Caisson Wrestling team took to the mat again (Dec. 12th) this weekend at the MMA Invitational Tournament. For a lot of the team it was there first taste of action on the mat, and for most of the team it was the first time they have ever wrestled in a tournament, and/or had to wrestle more then one match in a day. When the day was done, or should I say night by the time all was said and done, they made me a very proud coach with the way they worked all day long. We traveled and entered 20 wrestlers at the tournament as we were allowed to enter “Bandit” wrestlers, which are extra kids that got to win awards but not score team points. Our seniors (all 4 of them) had to take the ACT in the morning then jumped in the school van and rushed to the tournament late. Due to a change of plans at the tournament they were all forced to forfeit their first match of the day so by the time they arrived they all had one loss and the best they could do was finish in 3rd place. They were not happy but put it behind them and wrestled all afternoon and evening. Here is a break down on how the kids did.

103 Pounds – Michael LaBianca (10th grade) got a tough draw having to wrestle the # 2 seed right off the bat. He did a great job and took the match all the way to the 3rd period and kept the score close (4-0) before a mistake caused him to get pinned. Michael wrestled back hard and finished in 4th place in his first tournament ever.

112 Pounds – We had two wrestlers in this weight class, Bevin Morrison Rodgers (8th Grade) was the Varsity Wrestler and James Park (9th Grade) was our Bandit entry. Both of them had an outstanding day. Park drew the # 2 seed in the weight class, but he did not make the weight, so Park won by forfiet and advanced to the semi-finals. Morrison-Rodgers drew the # 3 seed and went out and pinned him in 30 seconds also advancing to the semi-finals. Due to their seeding, however, Park and Morrison-Rodgers had to wrestle each other in the semi’s. Morrison-Rodgers won and advanced to the finals and Park moved to the Consolations Matches. Morrison- Rodgers lost in the finals on a young wrestlers mistake as he was ahead on points but got pinned and finished the day in 2nd place. Park won by pin in the consolation finals and he finished the day in 3rd place.

119 Pounds – Kyle Harvey had the toughest weight class at the tournament and had a tough draw as he drew the # 1 Seed who last  year finished # 3 in the State for VHSL A States. Harvey lost that match then wrestled back and finished the day in 4th Place.

152 Pounds – Ben Drumm (Senior) had to forfeit his first round match then upon his arrival had to wrestle back and ended the day in 4th Place.

171 Pounds – We had two entries in this weight class. Tyler Lawson (Jr) was the varsity wrestler, and Connor Smith (Senior) was the Bandit Wrestler. Connor Smith had to also forfeit his first round match and wrestled back all the way to the Consol Finals. Lawson won his opening round match then was beat in the semi finals and also wrestled back all the way to the Consol Finals where he had to wrestle Smith for third place. At the end Lawson finished 3rd and Smith finished 4th.

189 Pounds – Tristan Osborne (Soph) started the day with a win, then was also beaten in the Semi-finals and wrestled his way back to the Consol Finals where he lost that match and ended the day in 4th Place.

215 Pounds – Michael Innella started the day by knocking off a tough wrestler from Strausburg then lost to the #1 Seed and he also then wrestled his way back to the Consol Finals and finished the day in 4th place.

There are a lot of names not mentioned here but every wrestler that went and worked hard all day did a great job and represented FMS with pride like a true team. We still have a long way to go but are on the right road with a very young bunch of men that are working hard every day in practice.

Come out this week and Cheer on the Wrestling Caissons as they will take on MMA at home at 5pm on Wednesday, the 16th of December. It should be a very good and exciting match as there will be some outstanding match ups on the mat that day.
