Wrestlers Move to 8-0

Report from Coach Chiarolanzio

The Fishburne Military School Wrestling team took to the mat again Wednesday night and put its 5 – 0 start on the line at The Covenant School. Before the night was over the Caisssons faced off against Covenant, Virginia Episcopal School, and  rival Fork Union.

The night started with a VIC show down between Fishburne and VES. Things got rolling quickly for FMS but not so well for VES. When all was done for this match the final score was FMS 78 – VES 6.

After that the Caissons moved mats and took on the host school, Covenant, in another VIC show down. Again the match got rolling quickly and at the end of this one the final team score was FMS 65 – Covenant 12. The highlight match here was at 126 pounds with Cadet Anders Lenardson ’14 (currently unranked) facing Jamie Wilcox who is currently ranked #3 in the private school rankings. This one could not be decided in 6 minutes so they took it to overtime where Lenardson scored a take down with 12 seconds to go for and a 14 – 12 victory over the #3 ranked wrestler in his weight. Lenardson also finished the night improving his record to 15 – 2 GREAT START.

Another HUGE highlight came from the smallest Caisson, Thomas Fosdick ’16. Now let me explain Thomas wrestles in the 106 weight class and if any one around here thinks he weights 106 we’ll need to have your eyes checked as he weighed in at a whopping 78.9 pounds for the this match. Thomas got one win by forfeit and then pulled off a PIN over VES, and a points win over Covenant. His first 2 wins of the season and he did a great job!

Lastly, the team moved mats again to take on rival FUMA. This match would be a lot closer then the others; but, when the dust settled the final score was FMS 51  FUMA 27, moving the Team’s Dual match record to 8 – 0 for the season.

Next up is the Chatham Duals Tournament  this Saturday down at Chatham High School. Then again next week we will face off for the local show down with Waynesboro High School on Wednesday night.

Roll Caissons!
