Wrestlers Get Win #20, On To State
Report from Coach C:
Fishburne Military School’s final regular season match took place last night as the Caisson Wrestlers traveled to Roanoke Catholic for a big VIC showdown to see who would finish in 2nd place in the regular season. The Caissons were also looking to win their 20th match of the season — a HUGE thing.
The team arrived and was told we were 40 min late so we rushed inside for weigh in, that all went fine. We got dressed and took to the mat for warm up. Then it was intros and it was their Senior night too. Then it was time to take to the mat for the show down.
Here we go:
106 Pounds: Fosdick had to take on one of the top kids in the state who weight in right on weight so Fosdick was giving up almost 30 pounds and it showed quickly as Fosdick was pinned in the first period. Team Score: FMS 0 RCS 6
113 Pounds: Baan did not have a match so won by forfiet. Team Score FMS 6 RCS 6
120: Farrell B, took to that mat against one of RCS better wrestlers and once again it did not go well for the Caissons as Farrell was pinned in the second period. Team Score FMS 6 RCS 12
126: This match would be a showdown between 2 of the top 6 wrestlers in the state and, at first, it looked be one-sided in favor of the RCS wrestler; then it was like Lenardson turned it on and closed the gap. Both wrestlers were almost pinned at one time or another. In the end Lenardson lost by a major decision. Team Score FMS 6 RCS 16
132: Morrison Rogers would take on the brother of 126-pounder and also one of the top kids on the RCS team. Morrison Rogers would also fall by pin. Team Score FMS 6 RCS 22
Things were looking bad at this point with 2 of our top kids both being beaten and 3 of them pinned. NOT the start we had figured on.
138 Pounds: Brandon Allen would then take to the mat and try to start a turn around for the team; but no such luck, Allen would also fall by a pin. Team Score FMS 6 RCS 28
20 wins is now fading fast
145: Kory Chuck Norris would take the mat and be the one that would try to get the turn around started. He had a good matach almost pinning the RCS wrestler several times but was unable to pull off the pin. He did win by tech fall. Team Score FMS 11 RCS 28
Could this be the spark to get things going??????
152: James Park would step on the mat in hopes of keeping the turn around alive; and he did just that with a win by pin in the first period. Team Score FMS 17 RCS 28
160: Kyle Hale would now go at it knowing a win would secure him the top seed in the VIC Tournament. He went at it quick and hard, running up the score but not being able to pull off the pin. Hale would win in the second period by tech fall. Team Score FMS 22 RCS 28
Things are getting TIGHT now with 5 matches to go……
170: Harold McCoo would go next. Now, remember Harold is a first-year wrestler and he would be taking on a wrestler that was a starter for RCS last season. Harold gave it all he had and it was enough. The match went a full 6 minutes and Harold would win by a score of 6 – 3. Team Score FMS 25 RCS 28.
182: Another show-down between 2 top wrestlers in the state. Blackburn would leave it all on the mat but would fall short losing 10 – 1. Team Score FMS 25 RCS 32.
Now wins were needed BAD to close the gap again.
195: Novak Porter took to the mat in hopes of getting the Caissons back into this match before it slipped away. Novak would go hard from the get-go and would secure the pin in the second period again closing the gap back to the closest it had been since it was tied 6 -6. Team Score FMS 31 RCS 32
220: Again FMS would send first-year wrestler Brandon Campbell to the mat knowing he had a lot of weight on his shoulders. AT ALL COST he could not be pinned or it was over and we would lose. Campbell took an early lead and was leading at the end of the first period 2 -1. In the second period Campbell would take charge, not only would he not be pinned but he PINNED the RCS Wrestler, giving the team its first lead of the night. Team Score FMS 37 RCS 32
285: The Wrestler from RCS was warming up and so was Allen Davis. I reminded Davis that this was for the TOP seed in the VIC Tournament this weekend and Win #20…. Davis would report to the table and RCS would elect not to send their wrestler to the mat and would forfiet to Davis. Final Team Score FMS 43 RCS 32.
We knew this would be the tightest one all year and it was.
Team did a good job to pull off win number 20. Now its on to the VIC Championship this weekend.
Final Team Record 20 – 3.
Go CAISSONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
