Video: National Honor Society induction ceremony

Waynesboro, VA — Fishburne Military School inducted thirteen new members and two provisional members to the National Honor Society during a formal ceremony last weekend. The Cadets were welcomed into the Honor Society with a speech by John Noonan, FMS ’99. Noonan graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and is currently Foreign Policy Advisor to the Jeb Bush presidential campaign, has served as Policy Director of the Foreign Policy Initiative and as former advisor to Gov. Mitt Romney and a writer for the Weekly Standard.

Fishburne Military School’s M. Frank Wooten chapter of the National Honor Society was established in 1976 to honor academic excellence within the Corps of Cadets.

The initial requirement for membership in NHS is a 3.5 weighted Grade Point Average (GPA).  A candidate must also have been at FMS for one full school year.  When these requirements have been met, the selection committee, composed of Department Heads and instructors, reviews each candidate’s qualifications under the remaining standards of service, character and leadership.

Fishburne Military School’s Superintendent, COL Gary R. Morrison (VA), a 1981 Fishburne graduate, noted that “Induction into the National Honor Society represents one of the highest academic honors a student can achieve at Fishburne.”

This year’s inductees are:

Sergeant Major Luciano Dolfi (Stuart’s Draft, VA)
Staff Sergeant Raymond Dua, Jr. (Union, NJ)
Sergeant First Class Thomas Fosdick (Staunton, VA)

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
