Varsity Basketball Wins Home Opener
Recap by Coach Greene
Fishburne’s Varsity Basketball team started the season 1-0 with a home win on Tuesday night against Grace Christian 65-55. The Caissons were up by as many as 21 in the 3rd quarter before the Warriors cut the lead to 9.
Senior captain Cederick Ross and Kian Tate who kept the game at a fast pace all night long, managed the clock well in the third and fourth quarters by slowing down the action. Ross (14 points) and Tate (12 points) controlled the tempo and combined for 26 points but the Caissons leading scorer was Senior captain Hunter Couchot who scored his 21 points in a variety of ways, scoring off of layups, fast breaks, fade aways, and threes. Thomas Beyene competed very well on defense and sealed the victory with two late baskets that were part of his 12 points. Antwan Brown and Garrison Grady provided valuable play off of the bench with 4 and 2 points respectively to go along with their defensive execution to keep the Warriors at arms length.
The Caissons are 1-0 and will look to stay undefeated when they have their first conference game against the always dangerous Flames of Eastern Mennonite on Dec. 3
Coach’s Comments:
I am most impressed with our defensive effort. With the weapons we have on offense, if we can make defense a priority then we will have a lot of success. Even with the big lead in the second half, this team continued to push the envelope on defense. If we clean up a few little things on defense, we will be an extremely dangerous team as the season continues.
