Swimmers Get Big W at Home

Report from Coach Gray:

At their first home meet of the year… Fishburne Military School’s swimmers brought it home with FMS  beating North Cross for the second time this season.  The meet started out fantastically with the Caissons’ Medley Relays coming in 1-2 and scoring  major points.

The A relay (Green, C, Hutchison, Duffer and Souslby) was body-lengths ahead of everyone after the second leg and then it was a battle for second place with the North Cross relay and Fishburne’s B relay swapping the lead.  But Cadet Pinner (one of the team captains) pulled it out in the freestyle.  Then it was North Cross’s turn to shine as they got 1-2 finish in the next event the 200 Free, but as it was an individual event (which is worth fewer points than a relay) FMS still held the lead.

Colin Green and Craig White then swam the 200 IM coming in well behind the North Cross swimmer but without disqualifying. Next up was the 50 free where JinWoo Lee, Royce Pinner, and a North Cross swimmer were all neck-in-neck.  In a spectacular finish Lee came in first and Pinner second, boosting our point lead over North Cross.  Cadet Lee also came in first in the 100 Free.

The most notable aspect of the 200 Free Relay (other than the fact that McKinley Duffer lead the A relay to a win) was that right after swimming the 500 Free Logan Amico had to jump in and take the spot of a swimmer who had just gotten sick. Colin Green (our other team captain) had a strong 100 Back coming in 2nd.

The 100 Breast was shaky for the Caissons.  John Hutchison fought hard to try and stay with the North Cross swimmer but just didn’t make it and fell behind by a few inches every length.  In the final event,  North Cross won by over 15 seconds, but at that point it didn’t matter.  Fishburne had the win in the bag.

Congratulations all our guys in continuing our at home undefeated streak.  Never in the memory of anyone at Fishburne have we lost a home meet and we aren’t going to start now!
