Raiders Finish Strong at Manchester Meet

By LTC Robert Hunt, Senior Army Instructor
100_6739The Fishburne Raider teams left campus at zero dark thirty on Saturday morning to compete in their third consecutive Saturday raider meet at Manchester High School near Richmond, Va. It was clear from the success at the two previous meets that this is one of our most talented groups of raiders in school history. We clearly have great depth in talent this year and are even able to man three very competitive teams. The leadership in the Raider program is equally as impressive!

The “A” team for example, consists of the battalion commander, battalion executive officer, command sergeant major, two battalion staff officers, one company commander, and two first sergeants. The commander of the “A” team, C/LTC Colin Green sets the example with his work effort, seriousness of purpose, and dedication to excellence. He has set and achieved high standards of performance throughout the year. His leadership transcends the Raider team as he also leads his high performing battalion staff.

On top of that, we also have a highly competent, hard charging, and devoted battalion commander (C/COL100_6604 Jeeyun Jung). He and with the rest of the team leadership clearly combine to create a formula for tremendous success.

There were over 30 Raider teams competing at the Manchester High School meet. Fishburne placed fourth overall, which is the best result in school history. To be declared to be the most physically fit team at the meet is simply overwhelming.  MSG Morton credits the support of CPT Fairbanks with his morning workouts which significantly contributed to their first place finish.

After putting much effort into winning the Physical Training test, the”A” team was able to place first in the vehicle pull. It took an extraordinary amount of team effort to place first after exerting so much energy in the Physical Training event.

100_6694C/CPT Thomas, the “B” team commander, and his team also had a great day by taking second in the military vehicle pull. That’s right, Fishburne took the top two places in that event.

Let’s not forget the Raider coach who has been working with the Raider teams all year long. He has donated his personal time and money to coach and support all three teams. MSG Morton has taught the Raiders more than technical skills, he has taught them about leadership and team building. I also would be remiss not to thank MAJ Cornelius for the outstanding job he has done assisting MSG Morton for the past two years.

The next and last meet FMS Raider meet will be at Fort Pickett on 20 April.
