Waynesboro, VA – The Fishburne Military School Raiders have big shoes to fill from last year. The 2013-2014 Raiders made it all the way to the brigade championships in North Carolina where they would place 12th out of 21 teams in the 4th brigade’s best of the best (The 4th Brigade is made up of 316 schools across 4 states). All signs show that this year’s raiders will be up to the task of continuing the Raider tradition at FMS.
Last Saturday, Raiders A,B, and C teams went to Carroll County High school to compete in a state-wide Raider meet that included teams from Harrisonburg, Roanoke, and Northern Virginia. While the team did not achieve its goal of placing first, they were happy with some aspects of their performance.
“I was really happy to see us place first in the Rope Bridge,” said Cadet Lieutenant James Wright (Seattle, WA). “That’s an event we put a lot of work into, so it is nice to see the hard work pay off.” While Wright acknowledged it was a good start to the season he wasn’t close to satisfied. “In order for us to achieve more than last year’s Raider team we have to drastically improve, we have a tough act to follow but I think we can do it.”
When asked about what, specifically, the team was focused on, Cadet 1st Sergeant Nicholas Rehmann (Afton, VA) said, “Our physical fitness is top-notch as all of our A teamers excel in cross country; however, I feel as though we need to improve in the litter carry and canoe log.”
Not only did the A team place second, The B team placed 3rd, and the C team placed 5th.
“As the Raider team Captain, I’m really excited to see that we have several guys outside the A team that are capable of performing well,” said Cadet Captain Logan Amico (Pittsgrove, NJ). “It means that if one of my boys on A team gets hurt or can’t compete, I can count on one of the B teamers to step up and fill in. It also gives me confidence that the Raider tradition will remain strong after I graduate.”
The tradition continues next weekend as the Raiders compete in Harrisonburg, VA. So come out and show your support for your Caissons!
