The letter below was authored by Mario Woodard, father of Michael Woodard, in preparation for the 2nd annual Michael’s Ride. We are looking for more riders! Donations go to our Student Assistance fund.

In searching my heart for a way to memorialize my son Michael, I believe he would like to give back to those who had given to him, and through their giving changed his life forever.
Before Michael’s death on April 26, 2008, he shared with me stories of his life at Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia. He would often talk about the discipline he received as well as the “brotherhood” he had developed with other cadets of the CORPS.
Revealed in our conversations was his journey from teenager to young adult in the environment of the Corps. There were times he struggled with the discipline and regimented lifestyle of a Cadet, but I could tell he valued and even cherished much of this time at Fishburne and all of the friendships he developed there.
Today I come to you to ask for your help to memorialize my son Michael by helping to increase opportunities for other young boys and young men to attend Fishburne Military School.
On October 12, 2009, I and other cyclists plan to do “Michael’s Ride II”, a one hundred (100) mile cycling event purposed to raise money for the Tuition Assistance Fund at Fishburne Military School in Michael’s name. It will begin in Waynesboro, Virginia and end in Richmond, Virginia.
In his short life time, Michael gave a lot to many. He was strong, full of life, funny and loved by many that knew him.
Michael would like this ride because of what it stands for and how it will help to serve others. He would also be proud that his Dad and other cyclists would take on this mission for him and future members of the CORPS.
If you choose to support “Michael’s Ride II”, you have the deepest thanks of every member of his family!

Please note at the bottom left corner of your check, “Michael’s Ride”. If you could, please include your email address. One hundred percent (100%) of all contributions go to Fishburne Military School.
