Karl Zieger: Hard hat mentality

Karl Ziegler was second-team all-state in Group AAA as a senior at Annandale High School, so you could forgive him if he’d walk into the gym thinking that he was already pretty good as he was.

That Ziegler put on his hard hat every day at practice for Fishburne Military School postgrad coach Ed Huckaby tells you a lot about 6’6″, 205-pound Longwood signee.

“Coach Huckaby stresses really intense practices and giving full effort in practices, and I tried to do that every day. One, I didn’t want to get yelled at, and two, I feel like it kind of fed off on the other guys, and made practice better,” said Ziegler, whose college coach, Mike Gillian, hopes some of the incoming freshman’s work ethic rubs off on his Lancer teammates.

“Karl is a versatile player, able to defend multiple positions, who is fundamentally sound offensively.  He is the perfect fit for us as we prepare to jump right into the thick of things in the Big South Conference this upcoming season.  It is safe to say that adding a player of Karl’s caliber and character only makes us better,” said Gillian.
