Jordan Tyson signs with St. Bonaventure
Difference maker. That’s the first thing that comes to mind for hard-core St. Bonaventure basketball fans when they think of Jordan Tyson (6’10”, 215, Columbus, Ohio).
“Jordan is going to be a fantastic player. That’s the type of player that you’ve got to get in the A-10 to compete. I see him being a very, very, very good player,” said Fishburne Military School postgrad coach Ed Huckaby after Tyson signed his National Letter of Intent with the Bonnies, which slipped to 14-15 in 2012-2013 after getting an NCAA bid in 2011-2012.
Tyson is a centerpiece of a recruiting class that could lead coach Mark Schmidt’s program back to the Big Dance.
Not that Tyson or his mother, Chaundra, knew where St. Bonaventure was before they made their first visit to campus.
“I love the atmosphere. It’s a small community overall, and it has just about 2,000 students. What I really like is the class ratio. It’s like an 8:1 class ratio. In a small class like that, that’s how I learn the best,” Tyson said.
Yes, he did. He just talked about how he was sold on the program first by being sold on the school.
That’s in large part due to his mother, an educator.
“I always tell Jordan that the primary goal is to get your degree. And getting your degree for free is just icing on the cake,” Chaundra Tyson said.
“There are no words to express how overjoyed I am. I think St. Bonaventure is a great fit for him,” she said.
