recap by Coach Tankard
Charlottesville, VA — At the Covenant Invitational Cross Country meet, the Fishburne Military School Caissons broke a number of personal records and earned a respectable showing on the team scoreboard. In the 5K Varsity race, sophomore Garrett Rose (Columbus, IN) lead the team with a 5:40 first mile and went on to score a PR of 19:22. Freshman Riley Malone (Waynesboro, VA) scored second with a time of 20:45, also a PR. Filling out the scoring five were sophomore Mitchell Cooper (Manakin Sabot, VA); freshman Elijah Jackson (Warsaw, VA); and junior Yuan Sun (Guangdong, China) who, in just his second race of the season, rounded the mile mark in 6:05.
8th grader Justin Hill (St. Augustine, FL) and 7th grader Ian Clardy (Arlington, VA) have thus far shown the most improvement amongst the younger runners and both turned in their best mile splits to date. In the JV 3K race, Cadet Hill earned 10th place, of 85 runners and with a strong first mile of 6:07 and final time of 11:51. Cadet Clardy finished 31st with a time of 13:00. He was followed 14 seconds later by 8th grader Mick Ball (Reston, VA).
In the team standings, Miller School of Albemarle took top honors. Fishburne finished sixth (ahead of Liberty Christian School, Middleburg Academy and Stuart Hall School).
The next meet for the Caissons is at nearby Coyner Springs on October 17th.
