FMS Reinstitutes Thursday Chapel Meetings — Superintendent Stresses Fishburne Brotherhood
Yesterday, Fishburne Military School’s Superintendent, COL Gary R. Morrison (VA) ’81, convened the Corps for the first of what will be a continuing series of meetings. The all-Corps meeting marked the reinstitution of a long-time tradition at Fishburne Military School in which the entire Corps comes together weekly to discuss relevant issues.
“These Thursday Chapels provide us with another opportunity,” Morrison explained, “to ensure that we are all on the same page regarding important issues, information or procedures.”
In this inaugural meeting, Morrison highlighted the details and importance of the school’s emergency policies, particularly the lock-down policy/procedure. He used the opportunity to announce that there would be increased numbers of emergency drills in order to ensure preparedness and safety in regards to emergency situations.
Morrison went on to discuss the seriousness of bullying on American campuses and highlighted the damage done to all involved when bullying is permitted or ignored. He challenged to Corps to live up to their “no man left behind” pledge to him (see installation story here) and to support and defend one another “as Fishburne brothers have always done.”
“These Chapels,” Morrison noted later, “are a great tradition and we needed to revive them. They provide us with an amazing opportunity to communicate to the Corps as a whole and to reinforce the lessons being taught in the barracks and the classroom.”
