FMS Raiders Named to “Best of the Best”
Report provided by LTC Hunt, SAI and Steven Anderson, 4th Brigade JROTC Operations Officer
For the first time, Fishburne Military School’s “A Team” Raiders have officially been invited to compete in JROTC’s 4th Brigade “Best of the Best” Raider Competition.
The 4th Brigade is made up of over 340 schools from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, DC.
Each state has approved regional and State Raider Competitions. In order to be approved the competitions must meet strict guidelines and standards. The winners from those events are reviewed at the Brigade Headquarters and only those with the highest scores are invited to attend the 4th Brigade Best of the Best Raider. The Best of the Best will be held in Charlotte, NC on the campus of UNC-Charlotte on April 27th.
During Regional, State and the Best of the Best Competition, Raider Teams compete in 4 mandatory events to include: creating and crossing rope bridges; Physical Fitness tests; a 5K run; a Litter carry event where stretchers with the equivalent of 160-pound casualties are carried in a timed course. In addition to the four standard events, there are four optional events. No schools are told which optional event will be added until the day of the competition!
The Saturday March 9th competition at Manchester HS was one of two in Virginia that qualified teams for the 4th Brigade Best of the Best. The Fishburne Military School JROTC Raiders qualified for the Best of the Best by finishing in 2nd place out 30 teams.
