FMS participates in Washington Birthday Celebration
This past Monday, Feb. 20, Fishburne Military School participated in the George Washington Birthday Celebration Parade in Alexandria, Va.
Since the times of the Revolutionary War, Alexandria has celebrated the birth of George Washington. The George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee is one of the oldest community organizations in Alexandria. It was a great honor to participate in this historic event.
The Fishburne parade unit was led by the FMS Battalion Commander C/LTC Will Ulrich. The unit included the Battalion Staff, Color Guard, Regulation, and Hudgin’s Rifles Drill Teams. Fishburne did an exceptional job at this event, and took first place for Military Units & Drill Teams.
“I can tell you that your group won a first place award in the category of Youth Military Units and Drill Teams. We will be presenting awards at a public reception in April. I will let you know the exact date and all the details within the next few weeks. Congratulations!” said Joseph Shumard, Parade Director.
Fishburne is very proud of its cadets for attaining first place at such an important event. The hard work, focus, and precision really paid off for us yesterday.
Trustee Shirley Crowder provided parking, donuts hot chocolate and water for FMS Parade unit. Several other trustees and parents also came to watch caissons roll along the 22 block parade route. Over 50 cadets made the three hour trip to old town Alexandria.
The cadets appreciated the fact that they were able to ride in comfort on a commercial bus. COL Zinser, FMS Superintendent, spent the day with parade unit and headed our delegation of supporters. He said it was a great event and he was proud of the cadets and hopes to have the entire corps march the parade route in 2013.
