FMS Football gets big win on the road
The Caissons of Fishburne Military School traveled to the Nation’s Capital to face Model School on Friday, Sept. 16 and came home victorious with a 24-20 win.
Fishburne trailed at the half 20-18, but fought hard the second half to secure the win. In the second half, placekicker Michael Cabeza (Beverly Hills, Calif.) connected on two long field goals to add to the scoring for the day. Cabeza hit from 37 yards and 35 yards. The entire team learned a valuable lesson of fighting through adversity and persevering to win the prize.
On offense, the key statistical performers were Da’Jhari Johnson (Staunton, Va.), who rushed for 160 yards on 16 attempts and completed 7 of 9 passes; Blake Gazzier (Friendswood, Texas) rushed the ball 26 times and gained 111 yards on the day; Mike Light (Richmond, Va.) led the receivers with four catches. All of this was made possible by the offensive line led by Patrick Guiffre (Fairfax Station, Va.), Will Green (Cheltenham, Md.), Tyrone Mason (Chantilly, Va.), Chandler Bryant (Virginia Beach, Va.), Austin Plitt (Crozet, Va.), Malcolm Reynolds (Clinton, Md.), and Drake Hanson (Manassas, Va.).
On defense, the effort of several cadets stood out. Novak Porter (Silver Spring, Md.) led the team in tackles with six and two assisted tackles. Other key performers were Brandon Olszewski (Cape May Courthouse, N.J.), Foster Evans (Charleston, W.Va.), Tarik Fayyad (Springfield, Va.), and Brandon Allen (Aldie, Va.). These hard working cadets carried the load and enabled Fishburne to shut out Model in the second half!
