Fishburne Raiders Team Makes Best of Best Again

Fishburne Military School Raiders A-Team Qualifies for Best of BestBaltimore, MD — The Fishburne Military School Raiders Team traveled to Frederick Douglass High School on Saturday to compete in a qualifier for JROTC 4th Brigade’s annual “Best of the Best” competition.

The Fishburne Military School Corps of Cadets is included in the United States Army JROTC Cadet Command’s 4th Brigade. 4th Brigade is headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and is comprised of 318 Army JROTC programs in West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

On Saturday, 26 teams from throughout the Brigade came to Baltimore to vie for a ticket to the “Best of the Best” competition to be held in April in Manchester, VA. Competition was fierce, but the Fishburne Military School Raiders flexed some considerable muscle, separating themselves from the field and earning a 1st-place overall finish.

The event consisted of four team-building events within the overall structure of a 5K road march. With 26 teams competing for overall best time and best time in each event, the FMS Raiders took 1st place overall, 1st place in logistics relay, 2nd place in the 5K road march, 2nd place in the rope-bridge, and 2nd place in the PT test.

Commanded by Cadet Hunter Wren-Russ (Tehachapi, CA), the Fishburne Military School Raiders A-Team consists of Cadets Alex Ralston (Nellysford, VA), Jacob Randall (Stafford, VA), Tyler Long (Beavercreek, OH), Matthew Farrar (Waynesboro, VA), Cody Chapple (Grottoes, VA), Raymond Dua (Union, NJ), and Alexander Isaacs (Reston, VA).

This marks the fourth consecutive year in which the Fishburne Military School Raiders have qualified to compete for the title of “Best of the Best”.

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS is designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
