Fishburne Raider Meet 2012

Story by Nolan O’Connor

This past weekend, Fishburne held its 10th annual Raider Guard Meet.

Fishburne does a great job hosting its Raider Meets, and this year was no exception. The cadets and staff from Fishburne received high praise from those that attended.

“They represented Fishburne Military Academy’s efficiency and professionalism very well.” said 1Sgt Charles McIntyre. 1Sgt McIntyre went on to say: “The support and professionalism of the Senior Cadet’s Cadre was excellent.”

Overall the meet went smoothly and professionally. This leaves room for everyone to have a lot of fun.

The cadets began arriving on Friday morning, and continued to roll in during the afternoon.  Teams that arrived early got to participate in the rappelling station, and had  a lot of free time to meet and bond with other kids from different teams.  After the off day activities the teams returned to the barracks to get some rest for the long day ahead of them.

They wouldn’t sleep much however, as wakeup went at an early 05:00.  The teams began with a good old fashioned early morning PT test, which consisted of a mile run, push ups, and sit ups. In which Fishburne A team received 4th place. Then the teams split off and went the the three separate events. Fishburne took home trophies for 4th in the rope bridge and 3rd in the litter carry. The Fishburne B team also won 1st place in the tire flip event, but was not eligible to win a trophy because it was our own meet.

The final event was a 5k road march (3.1 miles).  After a long day, it’s hard to keep a pace for a long run.  However Fishburne passed several teams on its way, and placed 3rd for the 5k.  Overall Fishburne received 4th place overall, a very successful Raider Meet indeed.
