Fishburne PG Hoops Player Volunteers with Hundreds at Delta’s Atlanta Hub in Haitian Relief Effort

Sometimes the aftermath of great tragedies brings forth with it tremendous acts of humanity and compassion. Chris Nelson, a PG Basketball player from Atlanta, Georgia, volunteered at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport for almost forty hours in an effort to load Delta planes with food, water and supplies bound for Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Nelson noted that, “through life he’s had a lot of help, and the volunteer effort with Delta was a great chance to give back.”

Cadet Nelson reports that over 100 people volunteered at Atlanta’s International Airport in the packing of dozens of airplanes. In an interview, Chris described donations coming in from around the world through Red Cross. Loading baby supplies, clothes, food and water for long hours over several days was tiring work. Cadet Nelson spoke of how his fitness training at Fishburne really helped maintain a high stamina levels throughout his efforts resulting in a job well done.

In closing, Cadet Nelson noted, “It was a chance to meet new people and gain a fresh perspective.”

At FMS, we hope that all of our cadets taken it upon themselves and reach out to those in need. Chris’s generous donation of time and energy has served as a model to the Corps of Cadets here at Fishburne.
