Fishburne Baseball Tops EMHS

A five-run explosion in the second inning carried Fishburne Military School’s Baseball team to an 8-2 win in seven innings over Eastern Mennonite at Ridgeview Park on Tuesday.
Fishburne scored in the second on an RBI single by Timothy Arndt, a flawless suicide squeeze by Thomas Fosdick, a walk by Solomon Adams, a passed ball, and a groundout by Quasean Napier.
The Caissons were led by a flawless day at the dish by Elijah Benito, who went 1-1 against Eastern Mennonite ‘s pitching. He doubled in the fourth inning.
Treavor Norman struck out 16, paving the way for a Fishburne Military School victory. Norman allowed two earned runs, two hits and seven walks over seven innings.
J Clatterbuck took the loss for Eastern Mennonite. He lasted just two innings, walked three, struck out none, and allowed five runs.
The top of the first saw Eastern Mennonite take an early lead, 2-0. P Clark started the rally for Eastern Mennonite with a single. Eastern Mennonite added more runs when Clark scored on a walk by N Solomon.
Fishburne increased its lead with two runs in the fourth. A single by Adams ignited the offense, bringing home Benito. That was followed up by Calen Owens’ single, scoring Adams.
The Caissons put up one more run in the bottom of the sixth when Benito stole home.
Fishburne improved to 2-0 on the season. Tracking back 10 seasons, this is the first time that the Caissons Baseball team has started the season with a 2-0 record. Yesterday’s win over EMHS was the first time that the Caissons have beaten EMHS in Conference play since 2009.
Tomorrow the Caissons take on LCA, the defending Division 1 State Champions and defending VIC Champions. Come out for this show down tomorrow afternoon as the Caissons play host to LCA at home at 4:30.
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
