Fishburne Military Schools “Michael’s Ride” Moves to May
Fishburne Military School announced this week that Michael’s Ride will be held on May 3, 2014.
In 2008, Mario Woodard made the first Michael’s Ride from Fishburne Military School to Richmond, VA in order to raise funds to establish the Michael Woodard Memorial Scholarship. Since that time, the event has grown and evolved into a family-friendly event held for a great cause.
Michael’s Ride 2014 is a 100 mile “century” cycling event that is held to honor the life of Michael Woodard (FMS ’07), his love for the corps and to raise money for the Woodard Memorial Scholarship that is awarded at graduation.
This year, the event will be held independent of Alumni Weekend in order for the ride to accomodate more participants. “We had a number of Alumni who wanted to ride,” explained Alumni Affairs Director, Mrs. Debbie Todd, “but didn’t want to miss out on the Alumni Weekend activities that day. This way we can also hold Michael’s Ride on a Saturday, which is FAR more convenient for those who want to participate.”
If you, or any cyclists you know, are interested in a great ride in the Shenandoah Valley, contact us at Alumni@Fishburne.org. You can also sponsor a rider for this great cause by contacting the same office.

Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command. For more information visit www.fishburne.org.
