Fishburne Military School Wrestlers Refuse to Take Weekend Off
Fishburne Military School Grapplers Step Up to Avoid Downtime
Charlotte, NC — The Fishburne Military School wrestling team had originally entered into an individual tournament near Raleigh, NC but that tournament was cancelled to do weather just one hour before we planned to
leave campus. Coach Terry Waters made a few phone calls to friends in NC and was able to get the team into the Patriot Duals at Independence High School outside of Charlotte, a team dual tournament which guaranteed each of our wrestlers five matches against some of the toughest schools in NC.
Fishburne’s grapplers went 1-4, losing 2 close matches. “All in all, it was a good learning experience for our team,” said Coach Waters. Matthew Farrar (Waynesboro, VA) and Grayson Garnett (Arlington, VA) both went undefeated, while Levi Smith (Fayetteville, NC) went 4-1. and Austin Lee (McLean, VA) came off his back to pick up a pin, after a frustrating loss in his previous match.
Next up for the Caissons is another round of conference duals with VES, Hargrave, Miller, and Roanoke Catholic on Tuesday. The team will try to claim the conference regular season championship for the second year in a row. Matches are slated to begin at 5pm in the gymnasium in Fishburne Military School’s Alumni Memorial Hall.
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
