Waynesboro, VA — Last night the Fishburne Military School Caissons gathered in Lawton Chapel to honor the Fall Athletics Awards winners and to celebrate a season of athletic successes. The Awards presentations were kicked off with FMS Athletics Director, MAJ Bryan Greene (VA) congratulating all of the teams for successful seasons and noting, “the purpose of this banquet is to recognize those who stuck with their teams and refused to quit. The refusal to quit is a characteristic we should all respect.”

Greene went on to recap the Fall sports seasons, recognizing that Cross Country was “undefeated against rival military schools this year and finished 7th in the conference under Coach Tankard…Football, too, went undefeated against Military Schools, winning the inaugural Patriot Military School Conference championship and Coach Hill’s team was just one win short of making the state playoffs finishing 5th in the state…[and] the [Varsity] Soccer team finished 7-6-1, going undefeated in their nonconference schedule, 4-1 against military schools, and finished the season in the conference tournament.”

Each team then took the stage while their coaches individually recognized each award winner before a cheering audience which included Fall Athletes, Faculty, Staff and local parents.

The final, and most prestigious, award of the evening, The James G. Hogg Award, was presented to Cadet Min Chang Kang. COL Hogg was athletic director, coach, and teacher at Massanutten Military Academy, Fishburne Military School, and Augusta Military Academy. He was an honors graduate of Fishburne Military School, Davidson College in North Carolina, home of the Wildcats, a division 1 school, where he was a scholar-athlete. At Fishburne, Colonel Hogg was assistant headmaster and athletic director. He dedicated most of his life toward helping boys make the transition to becoming young men with a sense of character and honor. The Hogg Award is presented three times per year to the cadet-athlete that best embodies the ideals of athletic and academic excellence. A plaque in the foyer permanently displays the names of recipients.
