Fishburne Military School Cadet Diego Dura Ballestar recieves James Hogg award

Fishburne Military School Cadet Diego Dura Ballester (Spain) receives the James Hogg Award for academic and athletic excellence.

On Tuesday evening Fishburne Military School (Waynesboro, VA) hosted their annual Fall Sports Awards Banquet in Lawton Chapel. The event was designed to honor the athletes and coaches who spent both time and effort to ensure the success of their teams.

To start the evening, Major Bryan Greene, Fishburne’s Athletic Director, stated that he would like all the athletes to recognize their coaches for not only coaching them but scheduling meets and doing the little things to make their season a rewarding experience

Coach Richard Chiarolanzio, Head Football coach, presented the awards for the football team and gave a brief summary of the season, noting “It was a roller coaster ride, we were constantly up and down but our guys stayed tough and fought hard regardless of the situation.”

Captain Kevin Woods, head coach of the Cross Country team, praised his runners for their work ethic and being, arguably, the best Cross Country team in school history.

The last award of the night was the James Hogg award which is presented three times per year to the cadet-athlete that best embodies the ideals of athletic and academic excellence. The recipient of the award is engraved into a plaque. The recipient of the award Hogg Award for Fall 2014 was Cadet Diego Ballestar.

The Banquet concluded with an inspiring speech from Colonel Gary Morrison. “There are no losers in this Chapel tonight, because all of you put it out on the line and gave it your all day in and day out. You are all winners regardless of what the scoreboard says.”

After the Awards the Cadets and their parents went down to the Mess Hall to enjoy a steak meal that is universally enjoyed.
