Waynesboro, Virginia – Fishburne Military School’s Cadet Leadership has announced the results of their most recent Honor Board to determine Cadet awards for November.
Cadet Jacob Owens ’14 (Suffolk, Virginia), son of Ms. Angela Cuci, was named Cadet of the Month. Upon receiving the award, Owens noted, “I really want to thank my Mom for this award. She works very hard so that I can get every opportunity and she is my motivation for being a good Cadet.” Cadets earning this award enjoy: One 3-Day Weekend Pass, one Special Dinner, ten Commandant Merits, and the right to wear the Cadet of Month shoulder-cord.
Cadet Lieutenant Forrest Vicars ’14, (Gold Bar, Washington), son of Ms. Stacy MacGregor, earned the honor of Officer of the Month. Upon receiving the award, Vicars noted, “I want to send a shout out to my Mom, this one’s for you!” Cadets earning this award enjoy: 10 Superintendent Merits, 10 Commandant Merits, one special meal and one Four Day Pass from 1830 Thursday to 1900 Monday.
Cadet First Sergeant Larkin Petrelles ’15, (Falls Church, VA), son of Ms. Sharon Petrelles, was named as Non-Commissioned Officer of the Month.
Upon receiving the award, Petrelles noted, “I am honored to get NCO of the Month because it shows all my hard work is being noticed.” Cadets earning this award enjoy: 10 Superintendent Merits, 10 Commandant Merits, one special meal and one Four Day Pass from 1830 Thursday to 1900 Monday.
Recipients of these Cadet awards are nominated by their peers from within each company and then selected by an Honor Board of Cadet Officers following a series of questions designed to test each nominee’s knowledge of Fishburne and American History, US Government, and JROTC History and Protocol. Those named Cadet of the Month, upon completion of their RAT (recruit at training) status, will be promoted by one rank.
“These young men,” noted FMS Superintendent, COL Gary Morrison (VA), FMS ’81, “represent the best that Fishburne Military School has to offer. They have worked diligently and each has made remarkable progress in their cadetships. They have earned our respect and our admiration.”
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command. For more information visit www.fishburne.org.
