Fishburne Military School Takes 1st at GW Parade
For the third consecutive year, Virginia’s oldest and smallest military school for boys was named Best in the Youth Military and Drill Teams category at the Nation’s oldest George Washington Birthday celebration on Monday.
Arriving in Old Town Alexandria at Noon, the Fishburne Cadets were greeted by a group of Parents and Alumni and treated to hot beverages as they prepared to march in what has long been a tradition for Fishburne Military School.
The parade route, festooned with American flags and bunting, was thickly lined with families and well-wishers. Winding their way through the historic city, the Cadets from Fishburne Military School were cheered from every direction and periodically stopped to entertain the crowd with displays of precision rifle manual and spinning.
Stopping in front of the reviewing stand, the Hudgins Rifles impressed the judges with a short routine; their sharp, blue uniforms adding to the effect and sealing a victory.
At the end of the parade, the Cadets returned to their staging area and were treated again to hot beverages and doughnuts by Alumni and Parents.
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command. For more information visit www.fishburne.org.
