Fishburne Military School Soccer Gaining Experience
recap by CWO1 Phillip Lacey
Charlottesville, VA — Fishburne Military School Varsity Soccer team traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia on Friday to play Covenant School on a clear, comfortable day and ideal pitch.
The Caissons had seven cadets unable to field due to injury and other obligations. The opponents struck in the 9th, 10th, 20th, and 24th minutes of the first half, with two incomplete shots returned on their own goal by Team Captain Bobby Palermo (Huntingtown, MD).
Goalie Derek Prestes (Glen Allen, VA) saved an incredible eighteen nets. Altogether, the squad had twenty steals to close the first.
The second half was much harder. The opponents made goals in the 45th, 47th, and 50th. Despite having reached the regulation end of the match, Fishburne Coach Bryan Raycraft made the call to make the most of the remaining time for experience’s sake by playing on.
The opponents netted again in the 60th, 63rd, and final minute of the match. Goalie Derek Prestes had saved an additional eight nets before subbing with Connor Green (Virginia Beach, VA) in the 63rd. Green would save six himself. Altogether, the Caissons had one corner and seven steals in the second.
