Waynesboro, VA — Last Saturday’s Raider meet in Harrisonburg was similar to the meet in Carroll County, except this time the boys were all smiles as the A and B team took first and second place respectively in a field of nine teams.

Cadet Zach Mcintyre (Bristow, VA) felt much better about this week’s result.

“You know you don’t work hard to finish second, you do it for that first place finish. The first meet is always tough because you are knocking the cobwebs off from over the summer but I feel as though we really came into our own and we were able to execute.”

Mcintyre wasn’t the only Cadet to feel great satisfaction about the win.

“After the victory we all came together and started signing the Fishburne fight song,” recalled Cadet Joshua Kovach (Big Pool, MD). “We really came together as a team and I could feel the pride everyone had for the school seeping out into the way we sang. The other schools couldn’t help but notice our enthusiasm.”

While the Cadets felt happy about the victory they were clearly not content as they displayed the same hunger and drive as they would after a loss.

“We won today but we still have a long way to go before I can be satisfied.” Said Raider team Captain Logan Amico (Pittsgrove, NJ). “Our goal from the start of the season was to improve upon last year’s result and I see no reason why we can’t, we just have to keep working hard.”

The Raiders next meet will be on October 18th as they travel to compete against rival Massanutten Academy.

Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics.
