Eight Cadets elected by their peers to serve on FMS Honor Council

Waynesboro, VA — Yesterday afternoon, in a brief ceremony before the entire corps, the 2017-2018 Fishburne Military School Honor Council took their oaths of service in Lawton Chapel. Eight cadets were sworn in by LTC Alec Gunn (VA), the Commandant of Cadets, and promised to uphold and enforce the Honor Code of Fishburne Military School.

At Fishburne Military School, every cadet is taught and expected to live within the credo “a cadet does not lie, cheat, steal or tolerate those who do.” This basic tenet of life within a military boarding school is the foundation upon which all lessons in leadership and life-skills are based. “Maintaining your personal honor throughout life is of the utmost importance. A blemish upon your honor is a stain you will always regret,” Gunn told the corps.

Cadets Kyle Churchwell (Herndon, VA), Thaddeus Mitchell (Abingdon, VA), Daniel Umberger (Jacksonville, FL), Joseph Jones (South Fulton, TN), Colby Salyer (Bristol, VA), Michael Diaz (Providence, RI), Donald Cravins (Washington, DC), Dylan Gladhill (New Market, MD) were elected by their peers to represent the Corps of Cadets in all matters pertaining to the Honor Code and its enforcement.

Throughout Fishburne Military School’s 138-year history, the cadet Honor Council has remained one of the most respected and cherished facets of cadet life.

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
