Fishburne Military School Drill Teams Excel at Liberty
Fishburne Military School Sacrifices First Place in Favor of Tradition
Caissons Drill Teams accept penalties for school uniform and turn in dominant performances
Bealton, VA — The Fishburne Military School Drill Teams made an impressive showing last weekend during the American Legion sponsored Liberty High School Drill Meet in Bealton, VA.
Fishburne Military School was selected to compete on behalf of American Legion Post 340 and and was officially sponsored by the Waynesboro Veterans’ group.
The Hudgins Rifles, Armed Regulation Platoon, and Color Guard each took first place in their respective categories and Cadet Thomas Fosdick (Staunton, VA) received a first place trophy for Individual Unarmed competition.
Hudgins Rifles were commanded by Cadet Blake Seydel (Woodbridge, VA); the Armed Regulation Platoon was commanded by Cadet Alexander Issacs (Reston, VA); and the Color Guard was commanded by Cadet David Eldredge (Carver, MA).
Due to a standing rule governing this annual meet that requires Cadets to wear contemporary Class A Military (branch-specific) uniforms, Fishburne Military School lost crucial points in favor of maintaining school tradition. As a result, the Caissons brought home a proud second-place overall finish.
LTC Robert Hunt, Senior Army Instructor at Fishburne Military School, noted that “The behavior and conduct of the drill teams and color guard was outstanding! Our Cadets represented American Legion Post 340 extremely well!”

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS is designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
