Fishburne Military School Cadets Honor Vietnam Vets

Goodlatte Invites Fishburne Cadets to Help Honor Local Vietnam Veterans

Staunton, VA —
Six Cadets from Fishburne Military School made a very special trip to the Thomas D. Howe Memorial Armory in Staunton, VA last week at the request of Fishburne Military School Cadets join Bob Goodlatte in honoring local Vietnam VeteransCongressman Bob Goodlatte.

The Cadets were there to help Congressman Goodlatte offer a long-overdue thank-you and welcome home to the Shenandoah Valley’s Vietnam Veterans. Over 100 veterans filled the ranks of chairs on one side of the armory hall as family members and supporters cheered them from the other side.

As the name and service branch of each veteran was read aloud, the veterans came forward to be presented with a certificate and lapel pin by the Cadets. Congressman Goodlatte then shook each veteran’s hand and posed with them for commemorative photos.

Among those receiving recognition were Navy Veteran Delegate Dickie Bell (VA 20th District) and First Sergeant James Hensley (Fishburne Military School JROTC instructor). Hensley is marking his fiftieth year in uniform.

Fishburne Military School Cadets join Bob Goodlatte in honoring local Vietnam Veterans “This was a tremendous event for us on a number of levels,” notes Fishburne Military School Communications Director, Chris Richmond, “First, it’s a wonderful opportunity for our young men to look a veteran in the eye, shake their hand and thank them personally for his or her service; Secondly, we were incredibly honored that Congressman Goodlatte immediately thought of Fishburne Military School when planning this event; Finally, it was important to us that TOP Hensley was included in this event because his service to our country and his contributions to our school are exemplary and should be lauded at every opportunity.”
