Fishburne Military School Announces September Awards
Waynesboro, VA — Fishburne Military School has officially announced Cadet Award winners for the month of September, 2015. These award winners are selected each month by a board of Cadet Officers and approved by the Offices of the Commandant, JRTOC, Headmaster and Superintendent of the school. Cadet Award winners are selected based upon academic and military performance as well as community service achievements throughout the previous month.
This month TWO Cadets have been named as Fishburne Military School Cadet of the Month. Timothy Carney from Owings Mill, MD, and John Lipp from Orlando, FL were
both named Fishburne Military School’s Cadet of the Month for September 2015. Carney is a senior and the son of Ms. Alicia Brown. Lipp is an eight-grader and the son of Ms. Jacqueline Lipp. Both Cadets will enjoy extra privileges, including a 3-day Weekend Pass, one Special Dinner, ten Commandant Merits, and the right to wear the Cadet of Month shoulder-cord.
Cadet First Sergeant Hunter Wren-Russ of Calabasas, CA, was named Fishburne Military School’s Cadet Non-Commissioned Officer of the Month for September 2015. Wren-Russ is a junior and the son of Mr. William Russ and Mrs. Helen Wren-Russ. Cadet Wren-Russ is the former commander of Fishburne’s Color Guard and a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club. As a reward, Wren-Russ will enjoy special privileges including 10 Superintendent Merits, 10 Commandant Merits, one special meal and one Four Day Pass from 1830 Thursday to 1900 Monday.
Cadet First Lieutenant Jakob Harrison from Boulder, CO, was named Cadet Officer of the Month for September 2015. Harrison
is a senior and the son of Mr. Steven Harrison and Ms. Jennifer Cleary. Cadet Harrison is the Commander of Band Company. In appreciation of his efforts, Harrison will receive an additional town pass and will be granted special seating during meals.
Fishburne Military School Superintendent, COL Gary R. Morrison (VA), FMS Class of 1981, noted “Each of these young men has worked to improve
themselves, their school and their community. Their efforts are in keeping with the highest traditions of Fishburne Military School. I commend each one of them, along with their instructors and families, on a job well done!”
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. Boasting a 100% college-acceptance rate for the past 10 consecutive years, FMS has also been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academics. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
