Fishburne Military School Announces Monthly Awards
Waynesboro, Virginia – During yesterday afternoon’s accountability formation, the Cadet Leadership announced the results of the year’s first Honor Board. Cadet James L. Monroe ’17 (Lake Arrowhead, California), son of Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Monroe, was named Cadet of the Month. Cadet John H. Weatherman ’15 (Staunton, Virginia), son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weatherman, earned the honor of Officer of the Month. Cadet Matthew R. Jones ’17 (Freeport, New York), son of Ms. Patricia Jones, was named as the Battalion’s NCO of the Month and Band Company earned the honors as Company of the Month.
Recipients of these Cadet awards are nominated by their peers from within each company and then selected by an Honor Board of Cadet Officers following a series of questions designed to test each nominee’s knowledge of Fishburne and American History, US Government, and JROTC History and Protocol. Winners receive extra privileges for the month including town pass and special mess hall seating. Those named Cadet of the Month, upon completion of their RAT (recruit at training) status, will be promoted by one rank.
“These young men”, noted FMS Superintendent, COL Gary R. Morrison (VA), FMS Class of 1981, “represent the finest of what Fishburne Military School can offer. They have excelled academically, militarily and in their leadership training. They have worked to uphold the finest Fishburne traditions and they have earned our respect and praise.”
