Fishburne Military School Announces January Awards
Fishburne Military School Names Top Cadets and Company for January
Waynesboro, VA — Fishburne Military School officially announced its monthly Cadet Awards winners for the month of January.
In recognition of his outstanding academic and military performance, Cadet Darian Belisle, son of Mr. Adam Belisle and Mrs. Michelle Rosado, has been named Fishburne Military School’s Cadet of the Month for January 2018. Belisle, a freshman from Staunton, VA, is in his first year at Fishburne Military School. Belisle is a member of the FMS Basketball and Soccer Teams. He has been
named to the Distinguished Honor Roll and aspires to attend either the University of Virginia or the United States Naval Academy. He hopes to pursue a career in the United States Marine Corps.
The announcement, which reads in part: “Through outstanding performance of duty, Cadet Darian Belisle is hereby awarded Cadet of the Month … Your exemplary performance and dedication to duty is a testament to your deserving such and honor”, was made during a formation before the entire assembled Corps of Cadets.
In recognition of his outstanding academic and military performance, Cadet Jason Bruinius, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Bruinius, was named Fishburne Military School’s Cadet Officer of the Month for January 2018. Bruinius, a senior from Charlotte, NC, is in his second year at Fishburne Military School.
Bruinius serves as the Charlie Company Executive Officer and is a key member of the FMS Soccer, Track and Raiders Teams. In addition, Bruinius is a member of the Key Club. He aspires to a career in the United States Air Force.
“I was surprised,” said Bruinius. “It feels pretty good to be appreciated.”
Cadet award winners are selected by a board of Cadet Officers, and is approved by the Commandant of Cadets. A Cadet award winner is selected based upon his academic, military and community achievements throughout the previous month.
In recognition of his outstanding academic and military performance, Cadet Platoon Sergeant Colby Salyer, son of Mrs. Minnie Salyer, was named Fishburne Military School’s
Cadet Non-Commissioned Officer of the Month for January 2018. Salyer, a junior from Bristol, VA, is in his second year at Fishburne Military School. He is a member of the Honor Council, and the FMS Key Club. In addition to being named to the Distinguished Honor Roll, Salyer is a member of the FMS Football and Rifle Teams.
“This was a surprise,” Salyer said. “a really nice surprise.”
In recognition of their teamwork, professionalism and overall bearing, Alpha Company has been designated as Company of the Month for January 2018 at Fishburne Military School.

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
