Waynesboro, VA — Fishburne Military School officially announced its monthly Cadet Awards winners for the month of December.

December 2017. Spencer, a junior from Lancaster, PA, is in his first year at Fishburne Military School. Spencer is a member of the FMS Rifle Team and plans to run Track in the Spring. He is an honor roll student and works as a cadet assistant in the FMS Mess Hall.

The announcement, which reads in part: “Through outstanding performance of duty, Cadet Juan Spencer is hereby awarded Cadet of the Month … Your exemplary performance and dedication to duty is a testament to your deserving such and honor”, was made earlier this week in a formation before the entire assembled Corps of Cadets.

“This was a pleasant surprise,” said Spencer regarding the award. “It’s good to know that I’m doing my job well here.”

In recognition of his outstanding academic and military performance, Cadet Dylan Vaughan, son of Ms. Rebecca Barker, was named Fishburne Military School’s Cadet Officer of the Month for December 2017. Vaughan, a senior from Fayetteville, NC, is in his fourth year at Fishburne Military School.

Vaughan serves as the Battalion S-4 (Quartermaster) and is a key member of the FMS Soccer team. In addition, Vaughan is the editor of the FMS Yearbook (TAPS) and a member of the Key Club.

“I was surprised,” said Vaughan. “It’s a good feeling to be recognized for working hard.”

Cadet award winners are selected by a board of Cadet Officers, and is approved by the Commandant of Cadets. A Cadet award winner is selected based upon his academic, military and community achievements throughout the previous month.

at Fishburne Military School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, The Hudgins Rifles exhibition drill team, the FMS Raiders A-team and the Key Club.

“This is pretty neat,” Koster said. “It feels good to be on a roll.”

In recognition of their teamwork, professionalism and overall bearing, Bravo Company has been designated as Company of the Month for December 2017 at Fishburne Military School. This is the second consecutive month Bravo Company has earned the honor.

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
