Fishburne Military School Announces Cadet Awards

Waynesboro, VA — During Saturday’s Review Parade, before the assembled Fishburne families and friends on hand for Parents Military Weekend, Fishburne Military School officially announced the results of September’s Cadet Awards Board.

Cadet Kamal Abdelmohsen Abouelkhair (Giza, Egypt) is named Cadet of the Month for September 2016

Cadet Kamal Abdouelkhair ’18 (Giza, Egypt), was named Cadet of the Month. Cadets earning this award enjoy: One 3-Day Weekend Pass, one Special Dinner, ten Commandant Merits, and the right to wear the Cadet of Month shoulder-cord.

Cadet Tyler Long ’17 (Beavercreek, OH), son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Paddock, earned the honor of Officer of the Month for September 2016. Cadets earning this award enjoy: 10 Superintendent Merits, 10 Commandant Merits, one special meal and one Four Day Pass from 1830 Thursday to 1900 Monday.

Commandant Merits, one special meal and one Four Day Pass from 1830 Thursday to 1900 Monday.

Recipients of these Cadet awards are nominated by their peers from within each company and then selected by an Honor Board of Cadet Officers following a series of questions designed to test each nominee’s knowledge of Fishburne and American History, US Government, and JROTC History and Protocol. Those named Cadet of the Month, upon completion of their RAT (recruit at training) status, will be promoted by one rank.

“These young men,” noted FMS Superintendent, retired Navy Captain Mark E. Black, “represent the best that Fishburne Military School has to offer. They have worked hard and taken full advantage of the lessons to be learned within the Fishburne system. They stand as an example to their peers of what determination and hard work can accomplish. Congratulations to each of these young men and to their families.”


Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS is designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
