Fishburne JROTC Wins George Washington Parade
Defending their first-place finish last year, Virginia’s oldest and smallest military school was again named Best in the Military and Drill Teams category at the Nation’s oldest George Washington Birthday celebration on Saturday.
Arriving in Old Town Alexandria at Noon, the Fishburne Cadets were greeted by a group of Parents and Alumni and treated to hot chocolate as they prepared to march in what has long been a tradition for Fishburne Military School.
The parade route, festooned with American flags and bunting, was thickly lined with families and well-wishers. Cub Scouts along the line of march proudly saluted as the FMS Color Guard passed by.
Winding their way through the historic city, the Cadets from Fishburne Military School were cheered from every direction and periodically stopped to entertain the crowd with displays of precision rifle manual.
Stopping in front of the reviewing stand, the Hudgins Rifles impressed the judges with a short routine; their sharp, blue uniforms adding to the effect and sealing a victory.
At the end of the parade, the Cadets returned to their staging area and were treated again to hot chocolate and doughnuts by Alumni and Parents.
