Fall Sports Awards and Season Summary
The fall sports scene included some heartbreaking losses, inspiring victories, and many young athletes making progress toward rebuilding their teams.
Football opened the season with a hard-fought loss to Fuqua School, 38-33, but then followed up with a come-from-behind win at Model Secondary, 34-20. The worst loss occurred at Quantico, 65-27, as the Caissons just couldn’t sustain any type of momentum on offense, and could not stop the Quantico offensive juggernaut. Next up was at Hyde Leadership School’s homecoming game against a fired up home crowd, in which Fishburne made some key plays in the final quarter to prevail, 42-33. This emotional win was followed by a tense game in which the team narrowly fell to Roanoke Catholic, 17-14. The rivalry game against Massanutten for the Saber Cup features some frustrating penalties and turnovers, as Fishburne was defeated, 36-28. Returning home for Parents’ Weekend, the Caissons garnered a victory against Fredericksburg Christian, 42-25, followed by a loss to John Paul the Great in the following week. The Capital Area Football Conference features a defensive battle against Hyde Leadership School, with the Caissons making crucial defensive stops and timely first downs on the road to a 13-12 victory, sealed in the final minutes by Jordan Wittig’s extra point through the uprights. This was the first conference title for Fishburne since 1990, and the second straight year the team has appeared in the conference finals competing for the President’s Cup.
