Desmon Shaver: Ready for D1

Desmon Shaver ended the 2012 season at Fishburne Military School not knowing where he was headed next.

He landed in a spot you might have heard of. Think March Madness.

Shaver, a 6’1″, 180-pound guard from Ruckersville, signed with Norfolk State, which cemented its place in NCAA Tournament lore as the 15th seed that upset #2 seed Missouri in the first round of the 2012 Tournament.

Shaver, who starred at William Monroe High School, is excited about the chance to play D1 ball for one of the hotter programs in the country right now. His year in the postgrad program at Fishburne was a big aid in getting the chance to play at NSU.

“It was a whole learning experience. I came from a small school where I was a star. I played here with a lot of good players, and I was able to learn from them. You play with them every day in practice, you play against better competition in games. And you work with Coach Huckaby. Coach Huckaby is the best coach that I’ve ever had,” Shaver said.
