FMS congratuates its incredibly smart students for their hard work and resulting induction into the National Honor Society and Junior Honor Society. During my two years, I played the game and did well. Upon graduation I was accepted by The Virginia Military Institute, The Citadel, and The University of North Carolina. I was also nominated by Congressman Earl Ruth of the North Carolina 8th District to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. My father persuaded me to attend UNC as he had done. (He later told me that was his worse mistake in my development.) I went to Chapel Hill.

Col. Jim Donnelly is leaving FMS

As many of you may have heard, Colonel Jim Donnelly, USAF (Ret) has accepted a leadership position with another firm here in Waynesboro. While we are extremely saddened at the thought of Jim no longer being with us here at Fishburne, we are proud of him and thankful for all the years of dedicated service to the School. Colonel Donnelly gave fourteen years of outstanding service to FMS while working as a teacher, coach and as Fishburne’s Business Manager. He worked tirelessly to make sure our School’s day-to-day operations functioned properly. Colonel Donnelly has been a tremendous asset to the School, and we will miss him very much. We wish Jim the best of luck and much success in his new endeavor.

My cousins all attended Fairfax Hall, and I recall being impressed by the Fishburne cadets I would see occasionally downtown at the Wayne Theatre, the Fishburne Drug Store, or marching on the drill field. I don’t know what exactly sparked me as a ten-year old to attend FMS, but it happened to me none the less. I had never talked to a cadet or recall even seeing one outside of Waynesboro, but for the next three years, I was relentless in my pursuit to convince my parents to let me become a cadet.

An Exciting Beginning for Fishburne’s PGs

Fishburne’s Board of Directors got a special treat this afternoon during the first day of their weekend visit. FMS faculty, staff, students and members of the press were also present for an introduction to the players and coaches that that make-up our Post-Graduate Basketball Team. The Fishburne gymnasium was electric as we watched the team had scrimmage for the first time. For several weeks now folks here in Augusta County as well as those in our Fishburne Family have clammered for more information about the team. Today was a great occasion for the School… history in the making.

Michael’s Ride II – The Best Kind of Testimonial

Yesterday the Corps of Cadets at Fishburne formed pre-dawn to send off Mario and Thomas Woodard as they began their second annual bike ride from Waynesboro to Richmond. As most of the FMS Community will recall, Mario developed Michael’s Ride last year to commemorate the life of his son, Michael Woodard (’07), who died in a car accident on his way to visit Fishburne. Michael was on a break from the University of West Virginia where he was a student.
