Fishburne Military School Earns Perfect Score in VAIS Reaccreditation
Fishburne Military School, which is a founding member of VAIS, first earned accreditation in 1897 through the then Southern Association of Secondary Schools (which later became known as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is now called AdvancEd). In the 119 years since then, FMS has never failed to earn accreditation, an honor that is unique in Virginia. This year, the VAIS Reaccreditation Visiting Team awarded FMS a perfect score of 72/72.

Fishburne Military School announced yesterday that an agreement was finalized with Norwich University (Northfield, VT) that will provide even greater educational opportunities for the FMS Corps of Cadets. The agreement provides “assured admission … to Norwich University” for qualified cadets graduating in good standing from Fishburne Military School.

“We cover an entire academic session in just five weeks,” notes FMS Admissions Director, Mr. Cedrick Broadhurst, “and we ask these young men to work very hard. By the end of a long week, these kids need some time to be just that…kids. Just like in the real world, if you work hard throughout the week and meet all of your obligations, then you should be able to enjoy the luxury of a little fun time.”

Fishburne Military School Cadet Cpt. Min Chang Kang had some convincing to do before leaving his home and family in Seoul and coming to the United States for his high school years. Now, as Salutatorian for the Class of 2016, Kang reflects upon the lessons learned at FMS and looks forward to life ahead.

Fishburne Military School’s Battalion Commander, Cadet Brian Draper (Washington, DC) was honored with the Arthur M. and Berdena King Eagle Scout Scholarship. Former Secretary of Defense, Donald H. Rumsfeld, himself a Distinguished Eagle Scout, was the keynote speaker and personally presented the award medal to Draper.

Fishburne Military School’s Battalion Sergeant Major, Cadet Luciano Dolfi (Stuarts Draft, VA), has been invited to participate in the American Legion’s 74th session of Virginia Boys State to be held at Radford University. The annual event brings hand-selected students from around the state together for a week-long, intensive session of practical training in the mechanics of citizenship and governance.

Military schools and JROTC units around the world took a little time on Saturday to celebrate the 100th anniversary of ROTC. In the video, Fishburne shows the lighter side of military schools as FMS cadets utilize their JROTC skills and training to successfully deliver the 100th Anniversary cake on time to the celebration in the Fishburne Military School Quadrangle.

Jacob Randall, son of Ms. Jenny Margaros of Stafford, VA, and Tyler Long, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Paddock of Beavercreek, OH, will be performing as a dual team and as individual soloists at the JROTC National High School Drill Team Championships. Only three schools in Virginia (Fishburne Military School, T.C. Williams and Loudon County High School) have earned invitations to this event.

All Army JROTC Units, including military schools with official JROTC units, are required to undergo regular inspections in order to earn and maintain their status within US Army Cadet Command. On Wednesday, an inspection party from the Virginia Military Institute paid a visit to Fishburne Military School in order to conduct FMS’ annual Regional Formal Inspection (RFI).
