Chris Nelson: Reaching out to Haiti

Sometimes the aftermath of great tragedies brings forth with it tremendous acts of humanity and compassion. Chris Nelson, a PG Basketball player from Atlanta, Georgia, volunteered at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport for almost forty hours in an effort to load Delta planes with food, water and supplies bound for Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Nelson noted that, “through life he’s had a lot of help, and the volunteer effort with Delta was a great change to give back.”

Coach Gray reports the FMS Swim Team had a great meet!

Our guys fought hard, but just didn’t have the manpower to beat Randolph-Macon. However, Richmond Christian School was a different matter. They had roughly the same number of swimmers, so we were expecting a close match. However Fishburne blew them out of the water. We got first place in all but two events, and we swept the breast stroke getting 1st through 4th places. Our guys did a great job and dropped time across the board.

Caissons Wrestling Reaches 9-0!

Last night it was senior night for the Caissons. We started the night by honoring all the seniors on the wrestling team, and entered the evening ready to first take on Randolph-Macon Academy (RMA), and then the Miller School in what was the official (Virginia Independent School) VIS match-up for the championship that is now just two weeks away. Before the action was to take place on the mat, we made a correction for the scoring of a match that took place last week.

Joey Clare, FMS ’11, Considers College Football Career at ODU

The 6-1, 255-pound Clare, a 17-year-old junior, was a two-way player and selected on the all-conference team. A center and defensive lineman, Clare led Fishburne in tackles. On offense, Clare became the snapping center, which enabled him to be a major part of final extra point kicked in Fishburne’s one-point victory in the championship game, 13-12 over Hyde Leadership Public Charter School in Washington, D.C.

Fishburne wrestlers find a groove at the Bull Dog Invitational (Jan. 8-9)

After a short night sleep it was back to the mat. First, however, we had to beat the scale again. Unfortunately, one of our remaining seven wrestlers missed his weigh-in by a .2 pound margin and had to forfeit out of the tournament. Three of the remaining six wrestlers succeeded in moving into the medal round. The Caissons did an outstanding job finishing in 12th place out of 19 teams. While this might not sound impressive below are the numbers.

Fishburne Wrestlers Pin Massanutten!

It was a very proud night for the Caisson Wrestlers as they will now enter the Holiday Break with a team record of 2 – 0 along with 10 wrestlers having a medal from the MMA Invitational. The season is like the team still very young. The team is doing well and has a ways to go, but again they are on the right road and headed in the right direction with lots of hard work in practice the team will only get better.

Wrestlers Take to the Mats – First Two Matches

There are a lot of names not mentioned here but every wrestler that went and worked hard all day did a great job and represented FMS with pride like a true team. We still have a long way to go but are on the right road with a very young bunch of men that are working hard every day in practice.

Come out this week and Cheer on the Wrestling Caissons as they will take on MMA at home at 5pm on Wednesday, the 16th of December. It should be a very good and exciting match as there will be some outstanding match ups on the mat that day.

Fishburne Swimmers Make a Splash Against MMA

Swimming against Massanutten is always exciting and this match was no different. We were neck and neck in the beginning of the match but then Massanutten pulled ahead in the 50 free and the 100 Free. Going in to the second half of the meet Massanutten was up by 10 points. But then Fishburne stepped it up. In the 100 Back (usually our worst event) Cochran got first place by nearly half a pool and Burkard came in second (after a Massanutten swimmer DQ’ed).
