Caissons Wrestling Looks Ahead to St. Christopher’s
Fishburne Military School Wrestling Will Put Lessons Learned to the Test in Richmond
Waynesboro, VA — The Fishburne Military School Wrestling team dropped two matches (Hargrave and Roanoke Catholic) Wednesday night. Hampered by injuries and breakdowns in discipline and “mat-smartness”, the Caissons learned some valuable lessons which they hope to turn into medals by season’s end. Head Coach Terry Waters remains confident that the team will be ready come conference championships.
Coach Waters added, “I have won over 300 matches, and done so the right way, and that is what I will continue to instill into our cadets, doing things the right way!”
Fishburne’s grapplers will travel to St. Christopher’s this weekend in Richmond as they take on not only the best wrestlers in the state, but some who are ranked nationally as well.
Two highlights from the duals match on Wednesday were Cadet Kasen Woody (Buckhannon, WV) stepping on the mat for the first time this season and then going 1-1 in his first ever varsity wrestling matches.
The biggest match of the night saw Fishburne’s Mathew Farrar (Waynesboro, VA) lock horns with number 1 ranked Dylan Noell of RCS. Farrar dominated the match en route to a 12-2 victory.
“Today,” Water concluded, “I am reminded why I chose this profession and the words I try to live by come into play.”
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
