Caissons Wrestlers Move to 5-0 at RMA

Report by Coach Chiarolanzio

The Wrestling team traveled to Front Royal this evening to take on RMA in rematch and then take on Rappahonnock County High School (public school). The night opened with FMS facing RMA in a rematch from our gym last week. Not a big difference but a little better then last time as the Caissons Roll to a 54 – 22 Win on the road to move to 4 – 0.

After that match the team was to take on Rappahonnock County High School, A team we did not know much about but the little info we did get was that they were a tough team and only missing one weight class (285). So this would be a good challenge for the Caissons to have to win as a team without forfeits. So lets take a look at how this night went against RCHS.

The draw had the match start with the bigger kids so it started at 220 Pounds.

220 Pounds — Brandon Campbell stepped on the mat giving up over 25 pounds as he weighed in at 195 today again. This match did not make it out of the first period as Campbell won by pin.  Team Score FMS 6  RCHS  0

285 Pounds — This would be the only forfeit of the match Davis (with all his teeth still in) wins by forfeit. Team Score FMS 12  RCHS 0

106 Pounds — T. Fosdick took to the mat in a touch match that went into the third period where Thomas’ size wore him down (giving up over 30 pounds) and he was pinned in the 3rd period. Team Score FMS 12  RCHS  6

113 Pounds — Baan would take the mat and this match would not get out of the first period as he won by pin in just over a minute getting the Caissons Rolling again. Team Score 18  RCHS 6

120 Pounds — Brian Farrell stepped on the mat but not for long as he won by pin in the first period and is still undefeated. Team Score FMS 24  RCHS 6

126 Pounds — This match Saw Lenardson take to the mat again and again winning by pin in less then a minute, Also still undefeated and has still not given up a point all season. Team Score FMS 30  RCHS 6

132 Pounds — Morrison Rodgers took to the mat here and was  a True wild back and forth Biggie type match but did not end well as Biggie was pinned late in the second period. Team Score FMS 30  RCHS 12

138 Pounds — Brandon Allen took to the mat here and again it did not last long as Brandon Won by pin in the first period. Team Score FMS 36 RCHS 12

145 Pounds –This match saw Norris step on the mat and again was a wild match early then Norris took charge and wins by pin in the second period. Team Score FMS 42  RCHS 12

152 Pounds — This match saw Chandler Wright step into the line up filling in for  James Park who departed on a college visit today. Chandler would take on the top wrestler on RCHS as he is currently ranked in the top 8 in the state. Chandler made this guy work hard and did not give up giving a great effort and lasting late into the second period before being pinned. Team Score FMS 42  RCHS 18

160 Pounds — Again a Sub as Cadet Goering stepped on the mat filling in for injured Kyle Hale. Goering did an outstanding job following the coaches’ direction to the letter and winning by DQ in the second period. Team Score FMS 48  RCHS 18 (Team Victory Secured)

170 Pounds — This match Saw McCoo take to the mat wrestling up a weight to help fill in and again did an outstanding job in this match going back and forth before losing by pin late in the 3rd period. Team Score FMS 48  RCHS 24

182 Pounds — This match was one of the biggest shockers of the night as Michael Blackburn made an uncharacteristic mistake in the second period  in a 1 point match and got caught on his back being pinned late in the second period. Team Score FMS 48  RCHS 30

195 Pounds — The last match of the night Saw Porter take to the mat that was scoreless at the end of the first period when Porter attempted a move in the second getting caught on his back and lost by pin. Final Team Score FMS 48  RCHS 36. Good match but a win in the end.

Also Several of the other wrestlers stepped on the mat tonight in exhibition matches. Some key ones:  Jacob Randal (8th grade) wrestled his first match ever and he won by pin. Robles took to the Mat 2 times and won both by pin tonight also. Dolas back on the mat today after his team punishment was up and split a pair of matches tonight. And Cadet Shofer also got his first match as a Caisson also winning by pin.

Over all a very good night and the team now sits with a 5 – 0 record heading into the holiday break.

A special THANK YOU to the Swim team for coming over to the gym after they got done beating the pants off RMA in the pool and cheering on the wrestlers in the final matches of the night. Again, a great night and  a great show of FMS school spirit with the extra fans at an AWAY match.

Still a long season to go. But tonight a very proud coach enjoying the moment. All the credit to the young men on this team for going ALL IN and not backing down from anyone. A true TEAM Effort.
