Caissons Swimmers Undefeated at Home

DSC_0037Once again the swim team crushed our rivals Massanutten, continuing to be undefeated at home since the pool was refurbished 2 years ago. Massanutten, who already had a very small team, was even smaller than usual due to illness so they only had 4 swimmers. But we didn’t just win by having a much larger team. We kept Massanutten from placing first in all but one event. The final score was a whopping 64-12. This was supposed to be our final meet of the regular season, but Massanutten wants to swim us again so we will be scheduling an additional meet in February. Our record is now 5-5, 3-4 in conference. Conference championships are next Tuesday in Roanoke.

Some highlights of the meet:
In the 146 Medley Relay (the 200 Medley Relay) it was a close race between our B relay and Massanutten’s relay for second place. Nicholas Price came out strong in the back stroke and gave us a lead of about a body length. In the breast leg the MMA swimmer was able to close the distance between him and Trystan Davies by a bit, but we still had the lead. The fly leg was what did us in. MMA had their best swimmer in fly and he out swam Craig White even though White foughtDSC_0046 hard. It was then down to Royce Pinner one of our team captains to catch up to MMA in the freestyle leg. He had about 2 body lengths to catch up and he wasn’t quite able to do it, though he closed the gap to about half a body length.

The 43 Free (usually 50 Free) was a continuation of the battle between Cadets Lee and Pinner. One day Pinner will be faster and the next day it is Lee. The last time we swam MMA Lee came in first just barely out touching Pinner, but today it was Royce Pinner’s turn. Perhaps it was having his family on deck cheering him on that made the difference.

In the 497 Free (usually 500 Free) Devin Soulsby lapped both other swimmers even after he paused to pick up the counter that had fallen into his lane while he was swimming.

DSC_0095In the 110 Breast John Hutchison cruised into first place, but Craig White faced another tough battle for 2nd place. He was just about a foot behind the MMA swimmer as they entered their final two lengths. The pool got really loud as Craig kicked into high gear and started closing the gap. Coach White (who also happens to be his mom) was there at the finish yelling her lungs out encouraging Craig to give all that he had. As they came to the wall it looked like the MMA swimmer was going to get second place, but Craig was able to just out touch him and got the second place finish to much cheering.

The 100 Back was all about the Green brothers with Colin placing first and Ryan second.
