Fishburne Military School Swimmers Solid at North Cross Meet
Roanoke, VA — The Fishburne Military School Swim team traveled to Roanoke, Virginia last week to face a field of four teams. The Caissons went 3-1 by defeating North Cross, Faith Christian and
Carlisle – falling only to Virginia Episcopal School.
Cadets Thomas Jones (South Fulton, TN) , Qijun Yao (Le Havre, France), Gavin Flanagan (Centreville, VA), and Gavin Senger (Harrisonburg, VA) got the meet off to an impressive start for Fishburne by winning the 200 Medley Relay.
In the 200 Individual Medley, Flanagan took home Fishburne’s only individual 1st place finish of the day.
In the 200 Free, Ryan Curran (Carthage, NC) set a personal record, dropping -9.71 seconds. Yao also had a PR when he came in second place in the 100 Breaststroke (-0.34). De’Sean Neal (Chesterrfield, VA) set 2 PRs, dropping -6.52 in the 100 Free and -2.05 in the 50 Free. Both 7th grade exhibition swimmers, Ian Clardy (Orange, VA) and Ashton Puckett (Mt. Sidney, VA), also set PRs in the 50 and 100 Free.
Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
