Lynchburg, VA — The Fishburne Military School (Waynesboro, VA) swim team traveled to Lynchburg this weekend for their opening meet of the season on Friday night. The Caissons swam well in their first head-to-head competition against the Virginia Episcopal School.

Fishburne’s team captains led the way with Gaving Flanagan (Centreville, VA) posting a Personal Record and a first place finish in the 100 Backstroke. Qijun Yao (Le Havre, France) won the 100 breaststroke with -5.07 seconds to spare. Joseph Jones (South Fulton, TN) finished 4th with another PR in the 50 free (-1.01).  This was an impressive accomplishment for Jones because he continued last year’s streak; every time he entered this event he has improved.  De’Sean Neal (Chesterfield, VA)also set a PR in the 50 free, dropping 4.09 seconds off of his best time from last year.

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
