Caissons Soccer Tops Massanutten Academy
Fishburne Military School Downs Massanutten in Woodstock
recap by Coach Lacey — Woodstock, VA — The Fishburne Military School Varsity Soccer Team (3-8-0) traveled to Woodstock on October 9th to play Massanutten on a hard, gnat-infested pitch on a very humid late-afternoon.
Keeper Derek Prestes (Glen Allen, VA) saved seven in the first half, including a penalty kick in the 19th minute that was shot wide left. The Caissons had ten shots and a very productive 41 steals, while neither side was able to score in the first.
That all changed in the second when forward Junke Jiang (Shen Zhen City, China) struck inside the box in the 55th. Shortly afterwards, Jiang transmitted an assist to fellow forward Hamed Al Hinai (Vienna, VA), who also struck danger close to the opposing goalie in the 67th on his fifth try.
Keeper Prestes enjoyed a solidified defense in the second half–having to only make four saves. Altogether, the Caissons had an even more productive second half than the first: with 26 shots and 63 steals. Team captain Bobby Palermo (Huntingtown, MD) accounted for 22 of the shots throughout the game, while defender Adam Bowles (Sewickley, PA) stole a total of 28, himself.
Fishburne hosts Hargrave at Anderson Field, 4:30pm on Thursday, October 12th.
